Vintage Japanese Silk Obi Pillow Cover with Embroidered Crane Positioned on the Bottom Right Corner

Tamarind Living

Design: A vintage Japanese silk Fukuro obi panel with hand embroidered details of a crane and chrysanthemum using elegant metallic gold threading is centered against a lime green dupioni silk. With a backing in solid lime green silk, this pillow cover is completed with knife edge construction, double stitched seams and an invisible bottom zipper for a tailored finish.

Textile Origin: The Fukuro obi introduced in the 1920's is a formal obi worn for ceremonies and elaborate celebrations. Made of silk or brocade, the Fukuro obi is most commonly tied in an elaborate Taiko knot worn today on the back, but can be adjusted into various styles. The auspicious crane emblem signifying longevity decorates this elegant pillow.
