Uzbekistan Handwoven Silk Ikat Pillow Cover in Black and White

Tamarind Living

Design: Uzbekistan handwoven ikat pillow cover in black and white with reverse in taupe cotton twill. Double stitched seams, knife edge construction and invisible center back zipper have been added for durability and tailored finish.

Textile Origin: Known for their colorful and bold patterns, Uzbekistan Ikat textiles were exchanged as political medals from the 12th to 17th century. After the Russian occupation in the late 19th century, ikat production was standardized with patterns and color usage regulated until Uzbekistan declared their independence in 1991. Since then, Ikat production has been revived as a family industry with a return to traditional patterns and natural dyes. The Uzbekistan ikat represents their cultural identity, and today is used locally for wedding trousseaus.
