Vintage Uzbekistan Handwoven Ikat Silk Pillow Cover in Gold, Set of 2

Tamarind Living

Design: Vintage Uzbekistan handwoven ikat panel in rich gold and berry has been set against a gold dupioni silk on the front and reverse of this pair of pillow covers. Double stitched seams and invisible bottom zipper have been added for durability and tailored finish.

Textile Origin: Known for their colourful and bold patterns, Uzbekitsan Ikat textiles were exchanged as political medals from the 12th to 17th century. After the Russian occupation in the late 19th century, ikat production was standardized with patterns and colour usage regulated until Uzbekistan declared their independence in 1991. Since then, Ikat production has been revived as a family industry with a return to traditional patterns and natural dyes. The Uzbekistan ikat represents their cultural identity, and today is used locally for wedding trousseaus.
